We’re going to talk about New Year intention setting practices and this is Part 1 of 3. The parts will be laid out like this: (1) Reflection (2) Setting Intentions (3) Creating Practices to Support Those Intentions
Let’s talk getting intentional for the New Year. Whether you have an established intention setting practice or are interested to get started, I have found this a great time of year to re-centre, reflect and to look ahead.
Reflecting on the Past Year
Reflecting on the past year is an amazing place to start. I feel like we get so busy that it’s not often we pause to take stock. This is valuable for so many reasons. First, it connects us to gratitude and what abundance we’ve enjoyed. Second, it helps us to reflect on all of the celebrations, milestones and happy moments. We never want to bypass these! Lastly, it also gives us a chance to look back and give thought to the challenges and difficulties and the many lessons those have taught up.
Looking Back
As we’re looking back, it’s really helpful to write things down. This can be done in one sitting or over a period of time. It can be as quick or drawn out as you wish. Remember that you’re doing this for yourself so, create a beautiful experience. There are no rules and this is an awesome gift you’re giving yourself.
Looking back in gratitude is a great place to start. What are all of the big and small things you are really grateful for. I encourage you to pause and really FEEL the gratitude. This is a powerful exercise.
Celebrating the Good Stuff
Now, let’s make a point of celebrating the good stuff.
- what milestones happened this year?
- what were my favourite moments?
- where was the joy?
- is there something I accomplished that I’m proud of?
Celebrating the good stuff is important. Remember these things can be big or small. What’s important to you is what matters.
Our Lessons
We also want to look at our lessons. I find that reflection can be beautiful in honouring the difficult and challenging times as well. When we consider these moments or stretches, we can be honest about what was hard, what we regret and what we learned. This is not an exercise in being hard on ourselves but, it is an exercise in self-compassion and honesty. We’re here on the planet to learn so, what can we grow from? That’s a really beautiful question.
Intention Setting Workbook
I have created a beautiful Intention Setting Workbook if you would like to delve deeper and be guided through the process.
As we embark on getting intentional for the new year, we have some great resources to support you:
As mentioned earlier, I highly recommend the Intention Setting Workbook for a beautiful, inspiring and thorough deep-dive. This will guide you through reconnecting with your core values, reflecting on the previous year and walk you through several areas of your life to help you create a very intentional new year.
May You Know Joy cards decks are also a valuable tool. You might enjoy card pulling as you go through the process of getting intentional for the new year. If your intention is to create a daily intention setting practice to support your well-being for the new year, these can also for the foundation of a beautiful daily practice.
Deluxe ritual gift sets are a great choice if you are keen to create a daily intention setting ritual. These include a stand for your daily card pull and a rose quartz crystal for energy clearing and to promote self-love.
